Jumpweeds to Jetpacks

Today I made a new species… a Jumpweed. It’s basically an independently motile, carnivorous tumbleweed that can jump…

Jumpweeds will latch onto you and consume your flesh.

They have basically the same physics object as the chair wheel, in that they are actually just a circle that rolls about. I then detect how long the weed has been in contact with the ground, and then make it jump after a semi-random amount of time. As always, the disgusting flesh-devouring player death animation was the most fun part.

I also added a few new tiles to the desert scrapyard set this week, including rusty gantries. Soon there will be some eerie maze-like levels where you are surrounded by mountains of sand-blasted industrial junk.

I’m also cramming levels with secrets to discover if you venture from the obvious path. It will definitely pay to explore in this game:

If you can find your way here, a secret upgrade could be yours...

Finally, there is nothing more satisfying than a jetpack-powered wheelchair (I use the jetpack for quickly getting places for testing). You won’t get it till near the end of the game, and you only have a limited time in the air before it has to recharge, preventing it from being too over-powered:

The jetpack will be one of the final upgrades you get.
